It is with immense sadness that we announce that Karen Ann Hume (née Volk) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

Karen was born on August 29, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois to Bill and Gudni Volk.

She is survived by her four children David Hume II, Jessica Hume-Pantuso, Gina Hume, and Jenna Hume. As well as her daughter-in-law Mendi Hume and son-in-law Nico Pantuso. In addition to countless other family and friends who loved her dearly.

Karen is preceded in death by her mother, Gudni, her father, Bill, and her brothers, Bill and John.

She attended Carl Schurz High School and studied photography in college. She married David Hume in 1981 and welcomed their first baby David Hume II in 1983. Her first daughter, Jessica was born in 1989 followed by Gina, in 1999, and Jenna in 2003.

Karen was an extremely dedicated mother. She loved all four of her children greatly and often referred to them as her “whole heart.” Whether it was baseball, color guard, cheerleading, or volleyball Karen was in the stands supporting her kids.

She loved her Chicago Cubbies and was wearing her Cubs hat while watching them bring home their first World Series of her lifetime.

Karen is described by friends and family as sunshine, a ray of light, hope, and a constant source of good advice and someone who would listen. Her incredible smile and laugh will be missed greatly by all of those lucky enough to know her.

Karen was creative, resourceful, and an absolute wealth of knowledge especially when it came to home design, plants, and crafts. She was innovative and did her best to find the bright side on any and every cloudy day. Karen was an absolute natural caretaker who is honored by all the people who have gathered to support her family in the time of her passing.
