Katharine Suzanne (Doyen) Strunk entered this world on July 22, 1993, in Tacoma, Washington. She was joyfully greeted by her parents: mother, Rebecca Suzanne Johnson of Ashland, KS; father, Robert Wayne Doyen of San Augustine, TX.
Katharine departed this life by suicide on Sunday, July 11, 2021. She was making her home in Austin, TX. Cremation has taken place. Her earthly vessel was under the care of Green Cremation Texas of Austin.
Memorial services will be held at times to be determined by each parent. A memorial stone will be placed by her mother in the Appleton Township Cemetery near Minneola, KS. Her father will place a memorial bench in the Attoyac Cemetery near San Augustine, TX.
Kate attended Sundown Elementary in Katy, TX, from Kindergarten through Third Grade. She attended the remainder of her school years at schools in the Maize, KS, School District after moving with her mother to Wichita, KS. She graduated from Maize High School in May of 2010.
At sixteen years of age, Katharine headed off to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering on May 16, 2015.
On Katharine’s 18th birthday, she took to the skies for a breathtaking skydiving experience. Her middle name was “Adventure”. Only part of her escapades and feats included horseback riding, skydiving, flying low on her motorcycle, traveling solo anywhere and everywhere, rock climbing, and kayaking. Katharine’s final excursion was a vacation to Costa Rica just for the fun of it. She wanted to see the world.
Katharine became intent on completing a Master’s level degree in Teaching that would enable her to live in foreign countries and teach English as a Second Language. She desperately wanted to make a difference in this world.
She elected to change professional directions in her life from Mechanical Engineering to Information Technology/ Cyber Security. She moved from Charlotte, NC, to Austin, TX. Her final profession was with Tracepoint in Austin.
Katharine was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Wilbur Johnson; paternal grandparents, Lennis and Tiny B. Doyen; her father’s brother, Raymond Doyen; and three of her mother’s siblings, Lynn, Lisa, and Teresa Johnson.
Katharine brought joy to the lives of so many, who now remain to grieve her passing: her parents, Robert Doyen and Rebecca Johnson; her maternal grandmother of Ashland, KS: Imalee Johnson; three older siblings from Robert’s marriage to Sandra Kay Tanner: Leia Doyen of Colorado Springs, CO, Joshua Doyen of Houston, TX, and Serena Doyen of Lumberton, TX; and many aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends from around the world.
