Mary Jean (Dobbs) Green, 90, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2021 in Austin Texas. She was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother (Mammaw), and great grand- mother. She will be missed greatly by all whose lives she nourished and enriched.

(Mary) Jean was born August 26, 1930 in Dallas, Texas, was raised in Grandview Texas, and graduated from Grandview High School. She went on to Abilene Christian College where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, graduating cum laude in 1951. While at ACC she met the love of her life, Phillip Henry Green, and they were married May 19, 1951. As a long time member of the Church of Christ, she enjoyed singing acapella hymns and attending church services. Henry and Jean maintained cherished friendships with church friends from all over the country.

Raising four children with Henry, Jean was a “homemaker” in the most meaningful sense of the word. She worked hard to provide a home where all felt welcome, loved, and well fed. Her compassion and love for others was shown partially by the thousands of notes and cards she mailed out whenever needed. She loved crocheting, making afghans for friends and family as well as crocheting countless baby afghans for charity. Jean loved playing almost any game involving cards, especially the game of bridge. She enjoyed teaching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchil- dren all sorts of card and board games. Her love of birds and especially hummingbirds was well known with bird pictures and statues decorating the house. Jean also enjoyed bowling, participating in league play for many years. It was something Henry and Jean enjoyed together until Jean started consistently beating Henry!

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Jesse Mercer Dobbs and Jessie Anna Woods Dobbs of Kaufman Texas, her brother Gervais and sister- in-law Lavonne Dobbs of Grandview Texas, and son Phil Alan Green of Burnet Texas.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband Phillip Henry, daughters Emily Ann Green and Cheryl Evelyn Bennett, son Gregory Scott Green and wifeKathy, daughter-in-lawCarol,grandchildrenKelly,Anna,Amy,Andrew, Megan, and Phillip, great grandchildren Joelle, Israel, and Cannon as well as many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date when Jean’s life can be remembered and celebrated by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make a donation to the National Audubon Society in memory of her love for birds.
